Hilton Head At Sunset

The kids and Keri are at Hilton Head for 4 days with another mom and her kids.  They always seem to have a good time and stumble upon some wonderful moments.  Tonight as Keri and Jackson were walking back up from the beach at sunset, Jackson was talking about his day.  The conversation went something like this:
Jackson: "Mom, God made Hilton Head."
Keri: "Yes He did."
Jackson: "Mom, did God make the condos too."
Keri:  "No, men made the condos here because God made it a beautiful place to visit."
Jackson:  "Mom, it is so fun here.  Can we stay here forever?"
Keri:  "Don't you think Daddy would miss us if we stayed here?"
Jackson:  "Daddy can come here and live with us."

That conversation took place after we had just spent an hour on the beach playing in the sand, exploring the surf and watching the sun set over the water...those are moments we both will remember.

Jackson playing in the surf while holding his pants up...he never got wet up to his ankles and his pants were rolled up to his knees, but he felt the need to hike up his pants.
Maddox...the only sensible one who kept his rain boots and jacket on.  He loved playing in the sand, but usually stayed out of the water.
Geneva holding up her sand dollar that she found...she enjoyed playing in the sand this trip the most.

Emma's passion this trip was trying to catch a seabird and finding interesting aquatic life on the beach.

After a very high tide and some thunderstorms, the beach was awash with multitudes of live and dead sea life.  The kids had a great time collecting things and spent the next 4+ hours studying, drawing, journaling, watching and playing with all the things they found.  Then we released all the living things back to the sea.  Hilton Head was once again an incredible schooling opportunity.

The Great Atlanta Blizzard of 2010

Last week there was talk of a TERRIBLE storm making its way toward the greater Atlanta area.  They said 1, possibly 2, inches of snow...we were shaking in our shoes...scary stuff, yah right?!?  Well, for around here it was big stuff.  Schools closed early on Thursday in anticipation of the impending storm and just reopened today (Tuesday).  As a side note...the Singleton school remained in session, that's just how dedicated we are here :).

In Canton, we received around 1/2-1inch of the fluffy stuff (not really that fluffy) and it barely made the grass white.  However, that didn't dampen the kids' excitement or the fun we had.  They got more muddy than snowy on Thursday afternoon, but Friday was full of sledding.  Britt and I did all the grunt work since there really wasn't enough snow to get a good run...can you say sore the next day...ouch!

At the top of the driveway ready to go...

On the way down...

The end of the ride...

Now our yard is back to brown, but the kids are looking forward to the next "Georgia Blizzard."

Christmas In Atlanta

This year for Christmas the entire Shenk Clan came to Atlanta after Peter's graduation from pilot training.  It involved 8 adults and 5 kids for a week of fun and excitment.  These were awesome times.
